Thermoacoustic refrigeration is a very attractive method of temperature control due to its environment friendliness. The thermoacoustic heat pumping occurs within a regenerator positioned in the thermoacoustic device. The acoustic field within the device consists of acoustic travelling waves propagating in positive and negative directions and as such, the regenerator temperature gradient will be influenced by both. To investigate the effect of these individual travelling waves, we constructed a thermoacoustic device consisting using two opposite facing speakers thus enabling manipulation of positive and negative direction travelling waves. By decomposing the measured acoustic field into its positive and negative propagating components and calculating the acoustic power using the two sensor method, the effect of the individual travelling waves on the direction of acoustic power and regenerator temperature gradient was observed.

The authors invented the superior wind turbine generator, which is composed of the tandem wind rotors and the double rotational armatures type generator without the conventional stator, and have discussed the wonderful advantages in the generating mode. The large-sized front wind rotor and the small-sized rear wind rotor drive respectively the inner and the outer armatures of the generator, in keeping the rotational torque counter-balanced. Such operating conditions enable to make the output higher than one of the conventional turbine and to keep the output constant in the rated operation mode without the brake and/or the pitch control mechanism. Continuously, this paper discusses the experimental results using the cambered blades.

This paper describes on the energy saving using ocean, and power management using ship at time of the disaster. Yokohama Green Valley is a concept for purpose of CO2 reduction and revitalization of the economy, using the city coastal area as a model In order to realize this concept model, we performed experiment at Yokohama Hakkeijima. Experiments were performed following concretely 1 Introduction of seawater heat pump. 2. Power supply from the ship in emergency. 3. Visualization of power. The seawater heat pump, we have energy-saving 20% cut off of power. We found that the power of ship to land is an effective method in emergency. In energy saving by smart meters, we found that there is an economic benefit to reduce the basic charge of power.

It is necessary for thermal power plant to achieve high heat efficiency and to use an alternative energy source because of global warming and exhaustion of fossil fuels. Heat efficiency of latest thermal power plants reaches to 60% and researches to achieve more high heat efficiency are done, for example, rising burning temperature and pressure ratio. However these measures can improve heat efficiency only few points. In this study, we try to get jumping raise of heat efficiency by reducing compression work of air compressor. To reduce compression work, we devise new system which liquefies air by using cool heat of liquid hydrogen and we propose to use liquid oxygen as the oxidizer. In this paper, we explain about this new system and calculated results which reaches 73% of heat efficiency.

<p>This paper describes how to produce biodiesel from waste soup of ramen, especially in terms of improvement of the energy profit ratio, EPR. This time, by applying solidification of tri-glyceride it is removed from soup, then EPR become higher over than 3.5. And by applying solvent extraction, then EPR become higher over than 5.0. This value is much higher than that of production by vacuum distillation in the previous paper. Furthermore, engine test is performed by using BDF from waste soup of ramen as B5. As a result, it is shown that fuel consumption rate and emission is almost the same as the case of using gasoil.</p>

The Pressurized Fluidized Bed Combustion (PFBC) system, using coal which is the most stable fossil fuel energy, enables higher efficient power generation. Hokkaido Electric Power Company, Inc (HEPCO) adopted the system to its Tomatoh-Atsuma Unit No.3,for the first commercial plant in Japan, and this unit started commercial operation on March 8^<th> 1998. The paper presents the out line of the system and systematic flow, and adjusts future technological problem experienced since starting operation.

<p>The current Japan-US nuclear cooperation agreement, which is the result of strenuous diplomatic negotiations in the 1970s-80s, should best be extended beyond July 2018 as it stands now. However, in view of various unfavorable circumstances (such as the delayed operation of the Rokkasho-mura Reprocessing Plant, Monju, MOX programs), further determined efforts are needed on the Japanese side to improve the domestic climate by removing as much as possible the existing negative factors. Above all, Japan should endeavor to dissipate misgivings abroad about clandestine military diversions, somewhat provoked by Mr. Donald Trump's recent statements as well as Chinese accusations.</p>

<p>The commercialization of biomass to liquid (BTL) technology requires not only development of stand-alone processes but also a total system solution. This R&D targets the development of an innovative biojet fuel production system. Entrained flow gasifier suitable for BTL and FT (Fischer-Tropsch) synthesis catalysts for biojet fuel with high selectivity and durability had been developed. Biojet fuel synthesis using bio-syngas had been carried out with combination of developed gasifier and FT synthesis catalysts.</p>

A novel measurement method for evaluating hydrogen solubility in water is developed Purified water is exposed to high-pressure hydrogen in a gas-liquid equilibrium cell of approximately 100 cc, and than gaseous component in the water sample of approximately 10 cc is analyzed with quadruple mass spectrometry. The purpose of this study is to establish hydrogen solubility data in water up to 29 MPa and to 75 ℃. Preliminary measurements under low pressure (up to 1 MPa) show that the deviation of measured solubility lies within the range of the estimated uncertainty of measurement. We reveal that the measurement uncertainty of the present method highly depends on the background intensity for hydrogen in the mass spectrometry.

Reactor power uprate of nuclear power plants is an efficient plant operating method. Most BWR plants need the exchange of high pressure turbines when plant thermal power increases over 5% because main steam flow rate exceeds the limitation of inlet steam flow rate of a high pressure turbine. Therefore, the new power uprate method named heat balance shift power uprate method has been developed. This method decreases feedwater temperature with increasing plant thermal power not to increase main steam flow rate. This study clarified that the heat balance shift method could increase plant electric power up to 2.8% compared with conventional power uprate method without the exchange of a high pressure turbine.

Technologies for the load-leveling of electricity do not directly contribute to the reduction of CO_2 emission which is now the critical political issue in development in the energy field. Though lowering of the load factor is inevitable from a natural feature and a socio-economic activity of Japan, it is a great social loss, considering the operation time of the large-scaled centralized power stations. In this development, we aim at the preparing the technical alternative for the load-leveling and pioneering the new field for hydrogen energy uses in the near future. Here we describe the test fabrication of an reversible cell with enlarged-electrode area to prospect to the technical feasibility of kW-class cell stack and the system integration among a water electrolysis, a hydrogen storage and a fuel cell to optimize both functions of co-generation and energy storage.

This paper proposes the early stage Plan that Iron works and Refinery cooperate to save energy and to increase Co-production Blast Furnace process is originally Co-production process (Iron production & Gasification production) Excess fuels (asphalt & pulverized coal) injecting into Blast Furnace is gasified high-efficiently (95〜98%) At the early stage Plan, Excess fuels are asphalt 60kg/ton-pig iron and pulverized coal 65kg/ton-pig iron. This Blast Furnace Gasification System and BFG (Blast Furnace Gas) Combined Cycle Power System are optimized in a typical Iron works model (6mihon ton/Y steel product) with Pinch Technology method This Optimization yields Power (559MW) and surplus COG (Coke Oven Gas) that is exported to Refinery Energy saving 13% of total Iron works energy consumption is estimated.

This paper describes the operating condition of 1.5MW gas engine system with pyrolysis gas produced in the waste gasification plant. This system started since Octorber 2001 at Kawasaki-Steel chiba works. The results shows the following four conclusions; (1) Gas engine can operate continuously with pyrolsis gas of which LHV is between approximately 1500 and 2200kcal/m^3_N, enen when the fluctuation of LHV is approximately 3%/30s. (2) Electrical efficiency is 37% at 100% load and 33% at 50% load respectively. (3) The concentration of dioxins in the exhaust gas was approximately 0.001ng-TEQ/m^3_N. (4) The concentration of NO_x in the exhaust gas is less than 100ppm (O_2=0%) without SCR.

In next century, a great deal of energy is used for pablic life in this coutry. This paper describes two new very small reactors for thermal heat supply to pulic use, such as air-conditioning and hot water. These reactor are characterized by the high safety, the long life fuel and the excellent cost performance. The reactor is an integrated and natural circulated PWR with passive safety systems. The reactor is designed with simple structure and enough isolation efficiency to be installed in the deep underground or settled on the base floor of a office building in a large city.
